USCIS recently released the processing times for the N-400 application for naturalization for local USCIS field offices. After receiving a citizenship application at the appropriate filing location, USCIS processes the application and forwards the file to the applicant’s local USCIS field office so that a citizenship interview can be scheduled. Naturalization lawyers have noticed a marked decrease in the processing time for citizenship applications in 2009, due in large part to the elimination of the July 2007 fee increase application backlog. 84 of the 85 local offices are processing citizenship applications at or below the 5 month processing goal set by DHS.
