The DREAM Act, a bill that would provide a path to legalization for possibly millions of undocumented youth and young adults, has narrowly passed through the US House of Representatives this evening, by a vote of 216-198. Although this is a huge win for immigration reform advocates who seek a solution to America’s immigration problems, whether or not the bill will make it through the US Senate remains to be seen.

Immigration attorneys across the United States have longed known what has been vocalized in the press in recent months  — there is huge segment of young people in the United States who currently have absolutely no path to legalization. Most of these kids were brought to the United States as babies or children, but assimilated quickly into our culture. As a result, most do not speak their native language or have any recollection of being in their home country.
